Maker:  YAMAHA

Model:  YHR 667

Type:  F/Bb or Bb/F full double

Bell throat profile: medium

Alloy: lacquered yellow brass, gold brass leadpipe

Bell flare: fixed

Water key: conventional type, on the leadpipe

Weight: 2.49 kg

Visual/cosmetic condition: good, apart from some small lacquer scratches inside the bell flare and several others on the outside of the bell 'neck' just above the name engraving. There are a couple of tiny 'non-invasive' dings in the large end of the mouthpipe. Of course, these are purely cosmetic issues that have no effect on the horn’s excellent playing qualities.

Valve compression: excellent

Case: original Yamaha hard case.

Further details: this model is well-known as an ‘easy blower’ requiring less effort than many other double horns. Although a professional-quality horn, its very reasonable price accounts for its parallel listing in the 'Intermediate' category.

Generally, an excellent player with an even response over the entire range.

Price comparison: This horn's brand-new lowest discount price is £3,606 (Alan Gregory, Manchester).

'Stop press’… I recently found out that Yamaha has now discontinued the 667 after 30+ years. So, I predict that this model will soon become a rare and highly-sought-after ‘iconic horn’!
