An unsigned German ‘Klingenthal school’ single F rotary valve horn with a lovely, round ‘built-in’ tone.

Perhaps 50 to 60 years old, this is an ideal ‘starter’ horn that will take a talented young player up to about Grade 5 level.

Weighing only 1.87kg/ 4lb 2oz, it has some cosmetic blemishes but plays beautifully, with absolutely no ‘wolf’ or ‘roller’ notes in the high register.

Please forgive my moving now into ‘autobiographical mode’: when aged 17 I cheekily transcribed the piano part of the Strauss 1st concerto for an accompanying String Quartet and performed the last movement in this fashion on a similar single F horn in a church concert!
