An excellent yellow brass Yamaha full double horn with detachable bell-flare, the 668DII embodies all the virtues of a large American horn plus additional security in the high register.

The instrument is in very good condition, its cosmetic shape indicating that it has been carefully looked after and maintained by its current owner, a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra's horn section.
There are just a few areas of worn or scratched lacquer mostly in the bell throat, having absolutely no effect on its musical qualities.

Playing-wise, the horn is outstanding, with a creamy, medium-dark sound and lots of projection.
One of my habitual quibbles with Yamaha horns is that their valves are so amazingly air-tight that they can be very 'unforgiving' with the fingers, requiring ultra-precise co-ordination so as not to, as it were, be 'knocked off' a pitch when slurring.
However, this horn has a much more kindly personality (!) and allows lovely, liquid slurs.
Its mouthpipe, typically on Yamaha’s yellow-brass horns, is gold-brass, therefore highly resistant to internal corrosion, and its thumb-plate is laterally adjustable to cater for different hand spans. (Why don’t all horn makers provide this very convenient gizmo?)

Testing the horn has once again confirmed my high opinion of this model, and I feel that it is very recommendable to a player looking for a reasonably priced, rich and full-sounding instrument with character, accuracy and personality.
