A totally original Elkhart CONN 8D.

All its lacquer is intact, and, as can be seen in the photograph, its nickel-silver alloy has that specific ‘gun-metal’ blue-ish tint that is common to 1960s and earlier 8Ds.
Mechanically and acoustically it is in excellent shape, having recently had a valve overhaul which included nickel plating and hand-lapping the rotors.
The horn exhibits all the expected Conn virtues, with an enormous, free sound and a superb legato.
Compared to more recent Conns - some Elkharts as well as Abilene and Eastlake ones - this is a very light horn (in weight: 5lb 2oz/ 2.35kg) and maybe this is why it feels so responsive and sensitive.
