PAXMAN'S 'Series 2' horns always amaze me!
Our current example, a rarely-available single Bb/A, made
of unlacquered yellow-brass, is no exception. Although
classed as an Intermediate instrument, this 'Series 2' horn is
fully capable of professional use, which is why it is listed in
both 'Professional' and 'Intermediate' categories.
Its bell throat is Medium-Large, so it is approximately
equivalent, but not identical to the Paxman Europa in the size
of the throat. It plays with a fluent and even response
over the whole range, with a clear, ringing sound, plus
Paxman's legendary clarity in the high register.
Rather light in weight (1.95 kg), it is in good cosmetic and
mechanical shape, with very good rotor compression.
The water spots on the bell can be removed by metal polish and
some hard work!
